Upholstery
Care Guide

At CL&L we ask you to follow the below product care steps to ensure your long term investment:

fabric upholstered furniture

care & maintenance

  • Keep fabric away from direct sunlight as this will prevent UV damage to your fabric. Use curtains or blinds to protect your furniture.

  • Vacuum all fabric surfaces and cushions regularly to remove dust and dirt by using an upholstery brush attachment.

  • Take particular care when spraying household chemicals and products near upholstery. Applying non-commercial scented fabric fresheners, neutralizers and fabric protectors is never recommended.

  • Scotch guarding your upholstery will offer a higher level of protection, however, please note that doing so may void any warranty. Ensure that the third party used for sealing offers their own warranty on their service.

  • Professional cleaning at a minimum every twelve months is recommended. If your furniture is used every day, we recommend professional cleaning every 6 months.

  • Always carefully lift furniture with two people when moving items around the home – never drag.

  • Rotate cushions often to minimize wear on frequently used seats and prevent concentrated fading. Cushioning and fillings will show signs of wear and tear with normal use. This is not covered by warranty. Cushions may crease, foam and fillings will soften and form to the shape of the user over time.

  • Pilling may occur on some fabrics and this is not considered a defect or fault, but a natural characteristic of woven fabric. It does not affect the durability or functionality of the fabric. Pills from fibre can be removed by using a pilling machine.

  • The easiest method to maintain cushions is to regularly “fluff and puff” and if possible, flip them. This is particularly important for feather-filled cushions and if not carried out, can cause them to lose their appearance or comfort level temporarily or even permanently.

  • Do not sit directly on scatter cushions or arms of your sofa. Sitting on the armrest of a sofa will deform the foam on the couches and by doing so will void the statutory warranty.

  • Keep your sofa or upholstered furniture item away from heat sources.

  • Keep pets and sharp objects away from your fabric.

  • To prevent bleeding of ink or dye onto fabric, do not leave newspapers, printed material or wet clothing on upholstery.

  • Use floor protectors on the bottom of furniture to minimize damage to floor coverings.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Upholsered furniture and Slip Covers are NOT suitable for dryers.

leather

Offering classic good looks and timeless style, leather is a premium material enjoyed for its unmistakable beauty and longevity. Leather brings a feeling of warmth to your interiors and as a natural material, enjoys a sense of quality, character and richness of tone. Leather has a natural protective coating that will resist most soiling and spills, however it is important to maintain its appearance with regular cleaning and conditioning. Caring for your leather is vital to its longevity.

care & maintenance

  • Dust regularly with a soft, clean, dry cloth.

  • Blot spills immediately with a soft white cloth. If further cleaning is required, wipe with a damp cloth.

  • Never use detergents, alcohol, chemicals, soaps, shoe polish, wax, window cleaner, silicone, saddle soap or any cleaning product not designed specifically for leather care.

  • Persistent stains may require a professional leather cleaning product, testing it first on an inconspicuous area. If necessary, consult a professional leather cleaning specialist.

  • Use a professional leather conditioner and protector to condition as needed, testing it first on an inconspicuous area.

  • Surface scratches can be rubbed out with a finger or buffed with a soft chamois cloth.

  • Avoid direct sunlight and direct heat exposure.

  • Avoid contact with sharp or abrasive objects such as shoes, belt buckles, rings and zippers which can scuff and damage leather furniture.

  • Avoid contact with wet surfaces like swimwear, towels etc as this can damage the leather.
